Guest speaker Lindsey Prather
State Representative Lindsey Prather is a member of the North Carolina state House of Representatives representing District 115. She is a teacher, public servant, and longtime community leader who has worked across the aisle to deliver for working families in North Carolina.
Since her election to the state House, state Rep. Prather has built a strong legislative record centered on enhancing public education, supporting working families, and advocating for reproductive rights. She co-sponsored initiatives to raise wages for teachers and state employees, support small businesses, and introduced key legislation to protect access to contraception and reproductive health services.
In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene, state Rep. Prather leveraged her campaign’s resources to help Western North Carolina recover, from delivering supplies and mailing out resources, to directly donating to community groups and sending hyper-local resources to her constituents. As an effective legislator, she also co-sponsored legislation that was unanimously approved and provided $500 million to address critical areas of recovery.
State Representative Prather is a lifelong product of North Carolina’s public schools, having earned her B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Asheville as a Teaching Fellow Scholar and a M.A. from Western Carolina University. She then went on to teach for six years in Buncombe County schools before becoming the assistant director of admissions at UNC Asheville.
